Over 90's Car Insurance

60+ years no claims discount doesn't help the price of my father's renewal quite with Nationwide!! Anyone know of provider who covers the elderly to compare with his existing quote? We have 3 family members on poicy as additional drivers, he drives only a short distance daily.

Not sure how much luck you'll get by going to comparison sites, but you might as well try.

As matter of interest, would you be prepared to say what the renewal quote is and the percentage increase? Also, do all the additional drivers need to be on the policy? Just a thought.

I don't know if it's the same for the elderly as for the young, but when my son was 18, quotes came down remarkably by putting my dad as an extra driver.

It might be better if you had just one other driver on the policy, as long their own insurance says they can drive other cars as well as their own.

Sorry I don't know of any insurance companies that have good deals for the elderly. A broker could do all the donkey work in finding a decent quot.

To clarify, I meant 'the drivers you take off the policy should have their own insurance for driving other cars' - which is quite standard anyway, I think

The amount of no claims discount doesn't really come into it at that age. It doesn't stop the older insured person from sudden illness at the wheel putting other road users at risk, ie heart failure, stroke, etc.

I am sorry (I am 70) and when I get to 80 I will stop driving,and find other ways to get to my destination.I can already feel that my reflexes etc are not what is required,as for over 90 it's just not on.
I am biased as a friend of ours died (a year ago) when a man of 86 ploughed into a coffee shop window and killed her.He mistook the accelerator for the brake.Need I say more?

I stopped driving when I got to 82 as,like OldBather I noticed that my reflexes were not as fast as they should be.

I agree, at 90 anything can happen. I feel it is irresponsible at that age. As well as reflexes not being as good, a lot of older drivers haven't the physical ability to turn their head far enough. I shudder when I see people barely able to get in and out of the car and it becomes obvious they shouldn't be behind the wheel. Sorry if it offends anyone.

At any age anything can happen. It is not a given that an old person is not competent to drive; it's just more likely.
I was camping in France a few years ago and was talking to an English man who'd just finished converting a van into a motorhome and was touring France in it. He was 90.

Thanks all. I know it's a difficult one & will check that link...looks interesting. He decided to stop riding his bike just 2 yrs ago so we have to trust his judgement.
In previous years, we have spent time on comparisons but its very frustrating to get so far through the quote before being declined.
A few years ago his price came down when we added a 25yr old to the policy! We all chauffeur him hence all on policy
