Copying A Clip From Dvd

Hi have a DVD made from an old cine film from the '50's I want to copy a couple of clips each about a minute and a half long, so I can post on facebook. What's the best way/software to use? Thx all

VLC is an excellent video player, which deserves a place on everyone's computer. (It's far better than Windows Media Player). More to the point though, it also provides the basic video-editing facilities which you need.

There's just one caveat to that statement though. The latest version of the program has a glitch, which means that the required recording facility doesn't work properly. So you need to download and install an older version. Here's the one I use for the task:

Then it's dead easy. Play your DVD in VLC. Click the red button where you want to start recording a clip. Click it again (or use the black 'Stop' button) to end your recording. Job done!

Hi there BC,I think we are at cross-purposes here.What I want to do is trim the actual physical dimensions of the video picture ie 3" x 2" so that all the surrounding data/info is "edited-out" Thanks.
