goto youtube, and find the film you want. copy the url, such as something like this:

Now go to another website,
http://keepvid.com . Paste the link there and press download. Right-click the 'download link' link that appears, and click save as, and save it to your desktop. It'll be a .flv file, which can be played with players such as VLC. If you want to convert it to another format, you could try a program such as SUPER. This program will also let you convert to a DVD file.

Note though that the quality of videos from youtube et. al. are pretty poor, and will likely look terrible on a TV.
