Hi, I have Windows 10 and have been using Microsoft Edge for some time now. All of a sudden it won't open. The icon is on the status bar, I click it, it tries to open, showing my favourites on the favourites bar, the home icon, the refresh icon and www.Google.com, but then after about 8 seconds, the screen returns to the desktop. I am able to use Explorer without any problem.
If by "Explorer" you mean Internet Explorer and not Windows Explorer, then simply download and install Google Chrome and never touch a Microsoft web browser again.
There are lots of web pages and Youtube videos about this well-known bug. They all seem to point to the same solution (which, regrettably, involves more than just a few clicks).
Here's an example. (To see what's going on you'll need to view it in full-screen mode. Start playing it and then click on the broken square symbol in the bottom right-hand corner to get it to full-screen)
. . . or, as Dave suggests, use a decent browser (which basically means almost anything that's not from Microsoft).
Chrome is the world's most popular browser for Windows machines but Firefox seems to be the favourite among AB members. Avant and Vivaldi are also both far better than either Edge or Internet Explorer.
Thanks Buenchico, this sounds too complicated for me. As I am just a basic user, I think I will just stick to Internet Explorer.
Thank you and Davegosling for responding.
Thank you Buenchico, I will change the browser. If I hadn't asked about this problem, I wouldn't have known about Microsoft being useless and the other options I now have, so thank you for that.
