Computer App / Add On, To Darken Only Part Of The Screen...?

I like to have 2 sides of my laptop for 2 different things, at the same time - sometimes even 3,
one is watching films or music etc and the other is work.

However - to watch films etc i have to have the screen brightness set fairly high, but for the work and word docs etc, i need it quite dark - as it hurts my eyes.

screen brightness has always annoyed my eyes, but now I'm on medication which makes it worse.

I need an app where i can basically make a shield, whatever size and colour/darkness, i need, and place it over the section of the screen i need to darken and keep working on whatever its covering.

Or, something that does the opposite and will brighten only a certain part of the screen.

Any ideas?

you could just get a second screen? Mind you that'd only be useful if you use it at a table/desk

If you are doing both at the same time, the film will be too bright for your work side anyway. If you do film watching and work sequentially then surely no problem.

Other than than get some semi opaque film and cover half the screen.

Unless it's an extremely unusual laptop, there's nothing to stop you buying a second screen and connecting it.

i know i could get another screen, i could just use 2 laptops even, but i don't want an extra screen, i need to move around and i want it both on the same screen - hence me looking for this solution
