I know almost everyone is asleep & don’t expect replies, just need to offload as am in such pain I’m struggling.
I know I muck about on here in a lot of my posts, but this site is a godsend and welcome escapism to me, I’d be lost without it. For past 6 or 7 weeks, completely coincidentally whilst recovering from pancreatitis, my knee joins & hip joints - both sides equally- started to suddenly throb in pain terribly when moving, bending, going up and down stairs etc to the point that I am literally in tears.. If I try and kneel down then it feels like my knees are being ripped apart inside. Sleep is impossible as all I can feel is this deep throbbing pain, mainly the hips as the knees don’t seem as bad when not moving. Managed to finally get telephone consultation with doctor, two actually, followed by several x rays as she is 99% sure(her words) that even at my age, not overweight, exercise/walk/jog etc, eat well etc, she is convinced I have rapidly developed osteoarthritis, confirmed in her opinion by my confirmation that my jaw has also suddenly developed this horrendous ‘clicking/grinding ‘Sound/noise every time I chew or eat or even yawn. Should get results next week.
Bottom line is that whether this has crept up on me out of the blue or not, if her diagnosis IS correct then I do not know how in gods name I can cope with this pain daily. I’m already on strong Co-codamol & oral oxycodone(when needed) for the pancreatitis and hairline fracture in coxyx when I tripped down the stairs. Also trying ice packs.
If it is this osteoarthritis then how on earth do people manage the pain??
Sorry for long post/rant - just cannot sleep and had to unload. Many thanks xx

Oh dear Smow, not good.
Ohhhh, sorry to her this Smow. Have you thought about going up to the A&E, stand a good chance of X rays being done and depending on results more treatment.
I sympathise with you
My partner suffers greatly with it too and her pain management even via the GP is below par but sadly they virtually cannot do anything more
Maybe you could get in touch with the acute pain team at your local hospital
I believe most have one
Beyond that I can only offer sympathy and some empathy
It is not nice for friends and family to witness either because they feel helpless
Which I do daily
Hope things ease for you soon and your GP finds some way of making it manageable
Oppp's very sorry about that, Smow. Should have been on Mamya's thread.

Hey guys, didn’t think anyone would be up. Tony - it made me smile lol.
The ‘hilarious’ thing it I actually look really well.
When I was in hospital for weeks and weeks with pancreatitis the one conversation with a doctor that stuck in my mind was ‘never look at Google with your symptoms’. Wish I’d listened!
I’ve played it down hugely to OH and anyone else I’ve seen. On one hand if they come back with this as a diagnosis at least I’ll know what I’m dealing with, on the other hand I pray it isn’t but if not then what on earth could it possibly be…..

And if I suddenly vanish tonight/now then my pain relief has kicked in…….
What a sad post to read from you, Smow. And I can’t do anything to help you.

The only bit of advice I have is what I have and will always do for pain, and I know many will disagree, give acupuncture a try. It may be horses for courses but it’s really helped me at times and is always my first choice for pain relief. But you do need to find a good acupuncturist. Sometimes a GP can help with that.
And don’t apologise for a post or a rant! We understand....x
This sounds awful and you have my sympathy.
I am not for one moment trying to say that your doctor is incorrect - but I can't help wondering if the doc has considered the possibility that you might be suffering from Polymyalgia Rheumatica.
This is a poorly understood condition caused by irregularity in the immune system, and because it is rare some GPs are not familiar with it.
This condition often has sudden onset of excruciating pain, sometimes in the shoulders and upper arms, or in hips and lower limbs.
Diagnosis is by blood test.
Treatment is cortico-steroid tablets (Prednisilone) which are very effective at taking away the pain.
Try a google of Polymyalgia Rheumatica and see if it fits your experience. If it does, it might be worth mentioning this to your doctor.
It's best to know an experts opinion, not Dr Google.
Then a treatment/care plan can be started.
Fingers crossed whatever the diagnosis it can be managed.
The ‘hilarious’ thing it I actually look really well.

It's not Smow, get yourself up the A&E, telephone convo's are pretty useless with a GP in your case.

Have never tried acupuncture but I’ll give anything a go.
Ringlet I agree with you, no I haven’t heard or even considered that but will certainly look up details.
And 1ozzy - I know exactly what you mean x

Tony, our A & E waiting times are absolutely horrendous. I think I’m tempted to ring doctor again & try n get her to ring hospital to get my results over the phone asap. Worth a try.

Definitely worth a try, Smow, do it.

Partner uses a lot of this
Recommended it to emmie in similar circumstances a few weeks back

SB - will try that, Thankyou, & hope your partner is bearing up.
And will do 1ozzy.
Snow. Something just struck me from one of your posts.
“I’ve played it down hugely” you say.
I recently got a telling off from Dave. An appointment I had with a consultant and the outcome of a hospital admission weren’t satisfactory. Dave told me part of the problem was I present well and cheery. I too play things down, hate to moan or grumble. I just didn’t say how bad things really were.
So.....go to pieces if you have to...cry....wail....do whatever you have to to get the attention you need.
Stop putting on a brave face. That, my love, is not advice...it’s an order!...x

Exactly gness. We can all put a brave face on but that won't get it diagnosed and cured.

Gness, oh bless you, but you’re right. I always worry about bothering people, so I don’t…….
