Postal Strikes Will Be The End Of The Royal Mail
16 Answers
Because The GPO have raised postal rates to an unmanageable level, I’m not sending cards this Christmas. I’m not the only one. The only winners here will be Amazon and other reliable delivery providers. Not the time to strike and I mean all the other public service providers at this time, while there is war in Europe. Fair enough when a settlement is reached, give them back money, but let’s get the country back on its feet and get a change of government as a result of Truss’s catastrophic management in her record minimal time in power. Her Hand shake of Death to ERII, fatally flawed budget, thank god she was horsed out of power before the Coronation next year . GPO workers beware your actions will cause major job losses.

Royal Mail are a dutch owned company, and their prices are not extortionate. It is a free market, so you can use another company for your mail needs if you like.
Not sure any of that is the responsibility of Truss? She was far too busy ruining or economy and trashing our global reputation.

Nope.
Royal Mail’s biggest shareholder is Daniel Křetínský, a Czech billionaire businessman.
// On 25 August 2022, Royal Mail in the United Kingdom was notified by the British government that Křetínský's Vesa Equity Investment Sarl, the then single largest investor of Royal Mail, had plans to increase its shareholding to more than 25%. This triggered intervention and a British government review by Kwasi Kwarteng the United Kingdom's Secretary of State for Business under the National Security and Investment Act. On 31 October 2022, the Secretary of State for Business approved Křetínský's intention to increase Vesa's shareholding in Royal Mail (owned by parent company International Delivery Services) //
Fun fact: He also owns a big chunk of West Ham United.

Snail mail for letters will probably soon disappear, but items such as parcels & certain documents still need physical delivery. However, couriers are not always reliable. They don't work on weekends & overseas they just hand off their deliveries to the local postal system. Considering their charges, much more expensive than a government postal service & not much faster.

// I don;t think Her Majesty's sad passing can be attributed to her, do you ?//
Not quite. It was probably meeting two armpits on the same day that did for her maj.
On the issue of pay rises; the govt said that pay rises at the moment are unaffordable. What a shame they didn't say that to the energy companies proposals for price increases, instead of doing nothing to prevent it.

Just what exactly do you think they could do? Gas/Oil is sold on the World market, the Government has no control over that at all. That is why other countries in Europe are in the same boat.
Of course if Johnson hadnt followed his Johnson and married his bit on the side maybe we wouldnt have been saddled with a ruinous green policy that exposes us to the World.
