Sky Hd And Hdmi Cable

Hi can anyone help me. I have a "new to me" sky hd box and want to run a cable to another TV. On the old system was no problem as had coaxial antenna out, but this box only has hdmi and scart. I know I can get an hdmi splitter but will a 8/10 meter hdmi cable degrade the picture quality?

Something to bear in mind when using a splitter with an HDMI cable is that the host (sending the signal to the displays) interrogates the first display that it detects, to determine the resolution of the signal to send. This can result in the signal being of too higher resolution for one of the connected displays to display (resulting in a blank screen). If this becomes an issue for you, you will first need to power the lower resolution display and then the one of higher resolution.

The HDMI spec suggests a cable length limit of 5 metres (using 28awg wire) should be OK, and up to 15 metres using 24awg wire (a thicker cable).

There are high speed certified HDMI cables, marked ‘Premium High Speed HDMI Cable’ supposedly to stop counterfeiting. If you find the signal degraded too much with a standard cable, you could try one of these, but they are likely to be much more expensive than a standard HDMI cable of the same length.

If the distance is less than 50 feet, an HDMI cable will not have a noticeable degradation in quality. For cable lengths up to 300 ft, an HDMI Repeater is available. To cover longer distances or avoid installing cables, you can also opt for a Wireless HDMI Transmitter and Receiver.
