1) although you are using CD-R they aree prob similar to DVD-R's where they have a '+' or '-' value, some computers can only use the '+' ones and some only use the '-' ones. this may be the same with ur hi-fi and the CD-Rs ur using at the moment
2) like mentioned above it may be because you havent selected it to be used as a audio cd
3) some hi-fis and in-car cd stereos only play cds that have all of the same type of music file on it. for example if it were to have ALL mp3's or ALL wma's then it would play but some dont allow a mix and if it has some mp3's and some wma's then it may not play.
hope this is of some help, let me know if u solve the problem
You're right Robert G, the others were on the wrong track for a 'hi-fi' deck. The Marantz got good reviews. I see you posted on the avtalk forum but without much success. I would have suggested a firmware uprade but have searched via the Marantz web site (even under its archived products - no DR6000) and Google. Even tried Traxdata 900 (a badged Marantz). Can't find any firmware upgrades. The JVC discs certainly seem 'faulty' - hope you get some help from JVC. Have you tried here:-

You could be cheeky and contact TDK to see if they have an opinion on JVC's discs!!
