I have an AMD Athlon 2400+ cpu and want to upgrade as far as my motherboard will let me ie 3200 but the FSB for this chip is higher than the maximum stated for my motherboard.

Will this cpu still run on my motherboard and if so what are the negatives ?

Thanks.

What motherboard do you have?

Gigabyte GA 7VAXP Ultra.I have checked on their website and 333 is as high as it will go but I need to know if the 400 will still run.

Thanks

According to the link below, your motherboard does not support processors with a 400mhz fsb which includes (3000+ & 3200+). But there is also a 333mhz version of the 3000+ which is the highest you can go.

It will still run fine, but underclocked. You may be able to overclock it to 400 if the mobo has the relevant bios options
