I have password poetected an Excel file and shared it on a network. For most people when they open it, they get the option to either enter a password or work read only, however one person opens this file and it defaults to open in read only and they get no option to enter a password so they can edit - any ideas why this would be?

Only one person can have edit access to the file at any one time. If this person is not getting the offer of entering a password, it probably means that someone else has the file open on their computer and that other person does have access to edit the file.

Excellent point, didn't think of that....doh!

Thanks for your help

Another potential cause is that they don't have write access to the shared folder in which the excel file resides.
