cv for a part time job

I have been looking for a part time position to support myself during my art foundation studies for almost a 1month now...and i suspect i takes so long because of my cv. the type of work i am looking for i simple cafe/retail jobs.i've got a year experience in similar environment(a luxury deli &a fast food sanwich shop) apart from other experiences such as doing some german translations, helping to organise an online secondhand bookshop,beeing an english speaking nanny in hungary and doing voluntary work for a student radio .I have tried put emphasis just on the cafe positions when writing cv, reducing other things, putting it together in skills based style /or writing it chroniligically, but my friend(who works in fashion retail and can get herself a job in a week working for fendi or selfridges or louis vuitton not only because of her looks) has pointed out that my education section on my cv is the reason for me not getting any offers(i have studied comparative linguistics for 2 years in berlin and went to a music grammar school in poland)and i guess it is true given that i've gotten both my previous jobs without anyone ever seeing my cv.I have even witnessed my last boss in the deli rejecting a candidate for the reason of knowing 3 languages!I could easily come out with a cv for an entry/trainee/work experience position for a proper job ,but am stuck with how to write it/what to include and omit for a part time student job.And i have to earn money so I can study!!!any tips would be welcome ...thanks

I would ensure you put down about the fact that you are loyal, reliable, hardworking and honest with a variety of experiences. Just then put down on the CV what relates to the work you want to do, although experience is often required. If you need work immediately I can help you by offering some work selling and distributing aromatherapy and beauty products. Seems to me they aren't so much against your qualifications (I have three degrees, so nor am I!) as they fear...

a) ...fear you won't stick around? Suggest that you show you have stickability. Is there anything that you have done for years? Eg Saturday job? If not, then show only those jobs you have held for longest to eliminate in their mind any ideas of job-hopping. Show them you are solid and steady.

b) ...fear you won't need them so you might drop them? My old boss liked to hire people who really needed a job because of family, mortgage or loans. Can you express your need for them is as great as their need for you?

c) ...fear you won't fit in? Are there any down-to-earth hobbies you can accentuate? Do you like to watch a soaps occasionally? Do you support a particular football team? Maybe you like to do something that the hirer can identify with, or maybe you enjoy doing something that would give you rapport with their customers?

Is your love of languages and linguistics borne out of a love to communicate with people? Did you enjoy nannying because you are able to work long hours in a physically demanding job while dealing with very demanding hungry little people? ;-)
