I have just got a Dell Media Centre computer and want to save a DVD to the hard drive. The loaded software (Roxio) will save a temporary file for copying but I cant figure out how to save permanently to the hard drive. Can anyone help a silver surfer technophobe?

You need something like VirtualDrive from FarStone. Have a look here:
http://www.farstone.com/software/virtualdrive. htm
Put the DVD into the dvd drive on your pc.
Go to START. then MY Computer.
right click on the DVD drive and click on open.

You will then come to a screen which says something like
Audio TS and Video TS

These files contain all the dvd files.

Create a file in MY Videos which is in MY documents with the name of the DVD.

Go back to the DVD drive. Right click on the audio file and click copy. Then go to the film folder you created and right click and copy the files into the folder.

Repeat procedure for Video folder.

All the film files will now be in the folder in My Video
