Epsom printer

I have the above printer,when I view the photos I have taken on the PC,the colours look natural.But when I print them out they are always darker than the originals.Is there anyway that some adjustment can be made ie to the printer.without doing a lot of pics to see what adjustment is required?Which can be costly both in ink and paper!! its not the printer, i have a Epson R300 photo and its a change that was made to Windows Picture and Fax viewer in an update a while back.

It really annoyed me because it printed fantastic up to this point. I used an Epson 830 printer before this too with no foil.

I just copy the pic into Word and edit the size n stuff, its not great but now i just dont print pics.

If its not this i'd love to know what it is.

Buying computer gear at a racecourse is not recommended.

Seriously though, are you using 3rd party software or Windows embedded software to view the photos.

Welcome to the world of colour profiles, and all that related to it.

It's not an exact science, and all you have to do is use something like Photoshop Elements (or Picassa which is free), to make the image darker on screen (a basic way of doing it).

Better would be to adjust the gamma and other settings of your monitor (through software usually such as Adobe Gamma), which should get you a better match.

Thanks all for your answers.I may be missing the points raised ,but it's what I see on the monitor that's correct for colour etc.and the printing that's darker.It means that I have to print each pic before I can see what adjustment is needed(gamma,contrast brightness)So quite often I'm doing them twice.These are not for me but for friends and family. Thanks again!!!!

You want to run QuickGamma or Adobe Gamma (comes with Photoshop and Photoshop Elements), to adjust the screen for all time (i.e., all photos). This should then match up more with the printer.

Another thing you can do is hold the print out next to your screen, and try adjusting your screen until you get the same look as the printout. This matching is very rough, but it may suffice for your requirements.

Thanks fo3nix.What i see on the monitor is straight from my camera,and is the correct colouring.I do not want to change the screen to match the photo ie the printer, but the reverse.

But you _have_ to do that! The camera and screen are using default setups that will be quite incorrect for colour balance.

my epson d78 does the same thing. i what i do is on printer settings and in advanced options increase the brightness of the phot by 20
and the contrast by 15 which i got by trial and error yours may be different but all my photos are the right brightness now.
also when i use abode photoshop when i preview the photo i also increase these values in adobe first but any photosuite should let you do this frst.
