I spoke to loads of people and tried lots of different things.
Mine only froze when I was actually on-line. I could write letters ect. with no problem but when I went on-line the whole thing would freeze. Sometimes after a couple of minutes, sometimes it would be alright for up to 20 minutes.
I spoke to my internet providers technical team and nobody could help.
My computer was even taken away and had a full check done on it - they found nothing!
After a couple of months, I was at the end of my tether, I phoned them again and was told to get myself an Ethernet DSL Router.
Apparently my computer couldn't power the modem itself anymore so they recommended i buy a seperate one.
I didn't hold out much hope but it actually worked and solved the problem completely. Hurrah!!!!
I don't know if this will help, hope so.
Good luck!

Hi
I used to have the same problems as you over and over again, it used to anoy me so much i felt like chucking my computer out the window but .......
This is a dramatic way to sove your problem, get a Apple Mac !! They never freeze or do anything stupid like windows do, i switched from Windows 2 years ago to Apple and i'm glad i did, there so much better and not frustraiting. I dont miss windows one single bit, you dont get freezing, you just get on with what you need to do! no worries what so ever, plus you don't get any viruses on macs what so ever, macs just don't let them in , you dont have to have any silly anti virus software to get rid of them, you dont have to do anything just sit back and enjoy your computer, how it should be, you may thing apple are expensive but there prices have dropped dramaticly this last year , i bought a aplle imac 5g for 1,300 now i could buy my computer for 600, there just hassel free and it will stop you getting anoyed, if you want you can run windows on macs but then you are open to viruses but you would then never get a freezing problem or anything else. or if you want most microsoft programs run on mac os anyway.
this may not solve your problem your having but it's just incase you consider it. i highly recomend it.
Did you upgrade the graphics driver as well? If you installed a new graphics card and did not install the compatible graphic card driver, then this might be a reason resulting in computer freezing. You could check the link to get more information of how to download and install the right drivers.
