I've just swapped by PC2700 DDR333 256mb x 2 for PC3200 DDR400 1GB x 1. The computer fires up ok and the ram is recogonised, it's just that it's taken to freezing. When I replace the old ram the computer works fine.

Checking other postings on answerbank someone suggested setting the memory FSB to auto in BIOS.

I've had a look in my BIOS and the only thing I can find similar to FSB is the following
Advance chipset features --> Dram clock/timing Control-->Dram Frequency [by SPD], you are then shown a Dram Frequency box in which are the following
By SPD [ ]
DDR 200 [ ]
DDR 266 [ ]
DDR 333 [ ]
with By SPD checked,

no mention of DDR 400.

What I want to know is should this computer run the DDR 400?

Try changing the setting from SPD to DDR333 and see how it goes...

Thanks for quick reply rojash, changed to DDR333 and it's fired up ok. As it could run for upto 1 hour without freezing will report back later.

Looks like that's cured the problem, thanks again.

Put the old PC2700/DDR333 in an spare computer, checked bios and it said
DRAM Clock--
By SPD
100MHz
133MHz
with 133 ticked

DRAM Timing--
Manual
By SPD
with manual ticked

Are these the best settings for this computer?

TIA
