HP 4250N printer default tray problem

I wonder if someone can help. At my work place we have recently had a HP 4250N priner installed to a XP pro network. When tray 3 has run out of paper the printer automatically defaults to tray 2 and continues the printing job from that tray. Is there any way to stop this. Quite simply all I want the printer to do is stop printing if the paper runs out and not continue to print from any other tray. The reason for this is 1 tray has blank paper and one headed note paper.
Thanks very much
