Email address
My grandson tells me that the first word of his Email address is underlined, BUT, I can't do it !!!
The U function does not work in the address panel although it works in the body of the Email.
When you press the shift key it just moves the word to be underlined further along.
Please , if you could tell me how to do it I wouldn't have to ask again.

The email address may appear as a mailto link on a webpage or such like in which case the underlining is only there to show that it's a clickable link.
There are no underlined characters. Any underlining is something applied by the program that's displaying the characters.

As Llamatron says, you could type an underscore (which is a character) but an email address cannot of itself be underlined. It can, of course, be displayed as underlined (for example to indicate that it's clickable) but the actual email address will not consist of any underlined words or characters.
I think I have resolved my Grandson's Email address, but for my own education how do you underscore a word?
If I write the word first and backspace to the start of the word, and then use shift key and minus key, all I do is push the word along in front of the underscoring!!
If I underscore first, backspace and try and put the word over the underscore, then I push the underscoring along!
I guess I am being pretty thick but would like to chisel away at my ignorance.

Exactly how you underscore the word will depend on the application you are using. In Word or Outlook Express, you click the toolbutton which has the letter U with an underscore. You can do this before you start typing the word, or you can highlight an existing word, and then click the button. Clicking the button a second time will turn off the underscore. You can also use the keyboard instead of the toolbutton: Hold down the Ctrl key and hit the letter U.
I think Ive seen what your referring to if its in Outlook programme for email but its usually an error in the address bar. eg. if you cut n paste an email address and try to make a change to it such as where the dot is etc, it will underline the original part.
Hope this makes sense.
Underlined works are not normal in an email address.
