dsl and adsl are essentially the same thing (DSL - Digital Subscriber Line is just the generic) .... the A denotes the subclass Asymmetric (faster one way that the other - generally downstream is faster).

I assume that what's being asked is can the modem controlled internet feed be extended (using the orange box as a Wireless access point - WAP) - so that others can share it.
the answer is yes - you should be able to ..... wheather it's actually a practical solution is another matter
If the "modem" has an ethernet port on the back ... easy ... all you need is a crossover cat5 cable between the two devices.
if not
first you'd need to setup internet connection sharing (http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/ics)
and connect the PC to the old router (either wireless - which is difficult) or using a cat5 crossover) - so the old router is being used as a wireless hub (wap)
in the long run ....
the downside is you'll need to have the PC switched on whenever someone else is surfing

It's just a network cable ... should cost about 3.00
from Maplins, PC World .....
I think that where ever possible there should always be one "hard wired" link in a wireless network (just in case)
not always possible .... but safest.
I suppose what I said (or meant is - yes you can ... but .... for 50.00 you could get an all in one that's better suited to what you want to do - means you don't have to leave a PC on
If you just want to build something out of "bits" - because you can - you can
Oh ... you'll need to disable DHCP on the orange box also ....
A "real" router is actually a single function device ....
at home - a router is just how the box is referred to (bit like DSL!)
a home router is actually a collection of devices ...
modem, router DNS server, DHCP server Firewall and hub (to name a few) - so in your case the orange box is only being used as a wireless hub (wap).
