external drive

i've just bought a new external drive partioned it into 2 partitions however when i go to disconnect from the 'remove hardware safely' it sees it as 2 seperate drives & won't let me disconnect . I have to turn off the machine first. Not a major problem but a bit of a pain . Have I missed something?

it is because each partition counts as one drive. undo the partition on the external drive and set it so that it only has 1 partition using max volume of the drive. it should then work perfectly
