Possible PC overheating

Is there any way of checking whether one's PC is overheating? I think that mine is because the CPU stops working after a period of time depending on how long the PC has been on. All three fans are working (case, CPU and powerpack) but could they be running slow? Is there a diagnostic programme for checking this?
The PC is a Hewlitt Packard and I am using Windows XP.

Even if the fans are working, the CPU can still overheat due to dust blocking the heatsink grills.

If you blow hard on the heatsink you should see dust come out, repeat till clean.

Also you can dowload and install a small utility from - http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php, which will monitor your motherboard, cpu temp, fans etc.

Just a wee word of warning if I may.

Do not adjust anything in Speedfan unless you are confident with what you are doing. Some CPUs can easily cook.
