.bin is a binary file. You need to download the file in it's entirity (sp?) before you can play it as an media file.

I have downloaded the whole file, but it is split into two 500mb BIN files.Does this mean I can not do anything to convert the file to another format?
Yup, j2buttonsw is right - the .bin is only part of the actual file - usually part of a cd / dvd image.
this is an image of a vcd.you can burn it to cd with nero or use a virtual drive(CDRWIN5) and you can go to the mpeg section in the cd and open the file inside with Windows media player and it will play,or you can put it in a vcd/dvd player and it should play
Potatoman got me thinking: is there a .cue file to go with the .bin file? You can use these files with an application like Fireburner to burn CDs. You can alway experiment with changing the file extensions to .avi/.mpg etc etc to see whether that works...
If looking through the options of your CD writer (e.g. Nero) doesn't get you anywhere I'd try right click and "open with" and choose that same program. I do agree though that .bin files are often accompanied by .cue files. You may have to burn this file to a CD to convert it to a usable format (e.g. VCD)
In addittion to the 2 500mb BIN files, there are 2 .cue files, but they are empty.I have also tried changing the file extension, but it still did not work.I have now downloaded a program called SVCD2DVD,which seems to have done the trick because I can now play the file in Power DVD.I am just hoping that I can now burn the movie to disc. Thanks all very much for your advice. If you are wondering why my original question is under a different user name,it is because aps 1 is my wifes logon, and she was using the pc at the time.
