Wireless broadband with AOL
1 Answers
Hi I am trying to set up wireless for my mum. She has broadband provided by AOL and I have bought a Linksys ADSL modem\router. The phone cable goes into the router and then I have an ethernet cable coming out and going into the pc. When I run the AOL sfotware it dials and connects. However I have a thinkpad t41 laptop which can detect and connect to the wirless network yet when I open IE it doesn't go through to the internet. Do I have to install the AOL software on every device I want to connect to the the network and the internet and if thats the case how do I get it to dial AOL using it's wireless card? Do i have to configure something on the router so that it knows the AOL credentials for any device that connects.......? Please help this is really annoying! Thanks

You need to set the router up with AOL account details and password. This is done by connecting the router to a laptop or pc using the ethernet cable. To access the router you need to type in an address which should be given with the instructions, possibly 192.168.0.1, in IE address bar. Once in the router setup you can put in your AOL account details and password, set the security level and that should be it. Disconnect the cable and pick up the wireless network. Not sure whether you will need to do anything with IE settings; we didn't.
