A friend has a Phillips 107e7 monitor working with a pc with XP operating system.

For some reason we can't get a picture on it. I've looked online and followed the instructions on how to rectify it but nothing is happening. The green light is on and not flashing so the manual says adjust the contrast and brightness by first pressing the (-) then (+) to alter the contrast and the press (+) and hold to alter brightness. Well I've spent all day doing this in one way or another but to no avail.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem and how to solve it. Or is it more likely to be a mechnical fault of some kind....Any help would be gratefully received or the thing is likely to be going out the window tomorrow :0)

Hi hana, it may be as simple as the fact that your current display settings are incompatible with the monitor. Try opening display settings by right clicking on the desktop then reduce your display resolution to the minimum allowed and reconnect the monitor - if this works then just keep increasing the resolution until you find the point at which your monitor will not support then keep it below that setting.

Hi there, thanks for the answer,

trouble is I'm not getting anything on the monitor at all just blackness. As I say I know it's on because I've checked all the cables and the greenlight is on but can't get anything more out of it for love nor money. :o)
have you tried reducing your screen resolution to something like 800x600 16bit? plug a different monitor in if you need to, otherwise try booting in safe mode. switch off the pc then power on but keep pressing the F8 button then select safe mode from the menu options.

Didn't think of that Will try that tomorrow, thanks again for trying to help :0) I'm always a bit nervous of this safe mode lark never quite sure what to do once the blessed thing has started...as you may have guessed I'm a bit of a technophobe lol!!!
if you don't get the startup info (generally ... a black screen .... white writing) scrolling down the screen when you first switch on .....the monitor is probably faulty

at this point it's just the pc and the monitor .... no drivers or settings .... so if that's not working it's a low level thing.

why wait? .... out of the window tonight.

it is a deskop and not a laptop?

Yes it is a desktop.....it's not here it's at my friends or it might just have gone out of the window already lol!!!
