safe mode

I need to go into safe mode in xp,i have tried 5 times now by re-booting and holding f8 key down also tried tapping f8 all to no avail,can someone out there help,

Have you got a wireless keyboard. If so it won't work.

no, both keyboard &mouse are wired,

wireless keyboard would work as long as the BIOS supports usb keyboard and it is turned on.

However that is not the question.

I susspect you are leaving it to late, you need to be hitting the f8 before you see the windows loading screen, start tapping it pretty much as soon as the hit the power button

If you're still having probs try this.
Guaranteed every time.

Start
Run
Type msconfig
Click OK
Click on the BOOT.INI tab
Place a tick in the SAFEBOOT box
Click OK
Click RESTART when prompted.

Don't forget to follow the above steps and UNCHECK the SAFEBOOT box when finished or you will forever be booting in safemode.
