audio tape to cd transfer
hi there i have some old audio tapes which are destorted and would like to get them onto my pc and improve the quality then burn to cd i havent a cue how to get them onto the pc and do the rest could someone give me a step by step instructions how to do this start to finish regards stu hopefully brave gordy he helped with some of it regards

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.your computer will almost certainly have a line input for audio on it, if it's a desktop it will probably be round the back next to where the speakers plug in if its a laptop then you can use the mic port as a line in, all you then need to do is use a lead such as below to connect the line output on your cassette deck or stereo to the line input on the pc.

Then you will need a bit of software to record and edit the music, I use audacity as it's pretty good and free.

firstly, you can't improve the quality - you can't add, you can just take away. if the original is rough then you can not turn it into hi-fi with software. however you can limit the tape hiss, RF whines or similar interference.
secondly, you need a cassette deck with a line out socket to connect to the PC. ask on your local freecycle or go to places like cash converters. maplin do cables, as chuck said.
