you could maybe download a key gen, that might do it... possibly

if you have a legit copy of word and the key supplied isn't working contact whoever you bought it from or contact MS's customer service in uk (i would get you the number but as normal MS's website strangely doesn't work from Linux!! hmmm!)

If you download a keygen and run it then you wanna be very very sure you have some really good antivirus software installed and it's up to date, as in my experience they tend to give you a whole lot more than just a product key!!!

What version of Word is it (2003, 2007 etc)?

Where did you get it from (retail box from say PC world, supplied with PC etc)?

Did you get the product key at the same time as the CD?

Is this JUST the Word product or the complete Office?

Have you installed it successfully before?

Note that Word / Office can be sold and packaged in a number of different ways (depending on the type of customer) and not all product keys work with all types of Word / Office packaging.

If you got the actual software from one place, but the product key from another, then there is a good chance there is a mismatch

You are probably trying to use a product key from one "package" of Word with a CD from another "package".

is it a cosher copy?
is the serial for that specific version?
what office version
what O/s
if yes
try using upper case ... or lower case....
and dont include the "-"s - the installer should see to those.

if it's office ... it often won't install a single package...
install the lot (default settings) then run the install again and remove the stuff you don't want
