playing videos on computers

When i try to play a dvd of a video that I have copied from a video on tape it will not activate.
Any Ideas please

Have you used a DVD recorder to create this DVD (did you connect a video player to a DVD recorder for example) ?

If so have you finalized the DVD ?

Normally you need to finalize a DVD before it can be played on another device.

The documentation that came with your DVD recorder will tell you how to finalize.

Once you finalize you cannot add anything to the DVD.

I did try finalising he disc but still no go.
Strangely it will play fine on the DVD rcorder /Player where I copied it from but not on my computer although other DVDs will play on it without any trouble..
I think the trouble might be in the format but I don't know how you go about changing that.
