Recently I've started encountering this problem :- When I switch on my PC and open Internet Explorer, a box appears with the following text :- ____________________________________________ Network Connections You (or a program) have requested information from www.bbc.co.uk Which connection do you want to use? ____________________________________________ There is then a list of dial-up connections, but I use wireless broadband and haven't used dial-up for about 2 years at least. (www.bbc.co.uk is my homepage, I should add) Why is this text appearing and how can I stop it, please?

I am assuming you have Windows XP, as you haven't said.

Start - control panel - network and internet connections - set up or change your internet connections

Under the connection tabs, is 'never dial a connection' ticked?

Question Author
Sorry, Ethel, yes, I 'm using XP, and yes, that is ticked.

Should it not be?
No, it SHOULD be ticked.

I will have to have another think, and hope somebody else answers in the mean time. :)
a few suggestions ....

if you have any dial up connections .... delete them
look in network places | network connections .... what's showing?
in connections - right click the wireless connection
properties - tick the show icon option
then you can see.
the icon shows what's happening
the little dots mean that you are waiting for a connection
how long is your wireless taking to give you an address?

right click the icon ... repair the connection
try a direct connection using a cable.

ACT,

Thanks for your advice. I'm with you part of the way but a bit confused by some of your suggestions.

I could delete my dial up connections, but I have to ask, why should I need to now, when they've not been responsible for bringing up a text window, which I detailed above, that's been appearing recently, for the past two years?

In my network places, nothing's showing.

In network connections, the show icon is already ticked but what can I see?

What litle dots?

My wireless connection kicks in after about 3-4 minutes of turning on my PC an then works fine, but this text box (as described above) always appears once I open Internet Explorer now, when it hasn't for 2 years up until about 3 weeks ago. What could have changed?
