My boyfriend is looking to buy a decent laptop; it will mainly be used for entertainment so something that is good for watching DVDs on, playing games, storing photos and music.
as ethel says .... games + laptop = not much chance
unless you are spending well over 1200 you're not going to get anything like a games machine ....
if games are important - get a desktop
if you have lots of photos and music .... with a desktop ... adding space is far easier and more cost effective with a desktop.
only downside of a desktop is .... you need a very long lead to use one on the train
He's no serious gamer.. so nothing too hardcore i'm thinking. It needs to be a laptop also =S so if gaming is not going to be great either way lets forget about that, what's good for the other things?
the other stuff 400-600 should do it (less if you need to
first set your budget .... and don't be tempted to go over
and (this is a horrible generalisation) the market is so cutthroat that for a price you'll get pretty much the same bells and whistles (but performance and qualiy will vary)
rather than recommending a particular brand - I'd say lurk the magazine stands and see what's hot.
there is nothing wrong with the likes of tesco either
