Broadband Modem Connection

I've just started using a new computer with Windows Vista Ultimate.

The computer has a broadband modem (Thomson Speedtouch 330 USB) which I would obviously like to connect automatically on computer startup.

There is a box which says "connect automatically", but if I tick this the tick isn't there next time.

Every time the computer is started I have to click Connect and then Dial.

There is the additional problem that if you put the computer into power-saving mode (ass opposed to a shutdown or restart) there is a dial-up error when it wakes up.
