laptop to tv connection

hi, i want to be able to connect my laptop to my tv, so that i can hear and see (note both) for example a youtube video or any music video on my tv which is playing on my laptop. what type of lead do i need, and also what specific sockets must there be on the laptop and the tv (in case i don't have them already). many thanks.

Both laptop and TV need HDMI sockets. Only newer laptops and flatscreen TVs will have HDMI.

If your laptop doesn't have HDMI but you have a new TV with a socket for a monitor cable, you can connect your TV like an external monitor, but this will not provide sound. you'll need to plug speakers into the laptop or use the laptop's own speakers.
