what sort of mouse (maker/model would help)
what mouse mat (material/colour)
i don't have ideas why exactly it happens, but if it would be happening to me i would download and install drivers from manufacturer website. downloading drivers from websites not related to the real company may result malware.

If your mouse is freezing I suggest you wrap it up well, the poor thing will catch it's death!

Oh, sorry, did you mean a computer mouse?

Firstly try in a different usb port.. if no change then,

right click on my computer and select properties, then hardware tab, click on the device manager button, look down the list for human interface devices, click the plus sign next to it and you should see your mouse listed, right click on it and select uninstall.

then restart your computer (press the power button briefly if you no longer have a working mouse)

when it restarts it will reinstall drivers and see if that helps.

if not it may be a faulty mouse, they don't last for ever! so try another one, or try yours on another computer.
