Has it ever connected wirelessly to that router?

What exactly is happening? Is it finding the router, connecting, but not displaying web pages?

Is it not finding the router at all? Have you pressed a switch on the laptop and turned the wifi off?
Try, Control Panel, Network Setup Wizard. You'll need passwords etc to complete connexion.

I have been using it for the past year with the same connection and have had no problems. Now when I try to connect a message appears on the screen saing 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.'

f I have pressed a switch it has been unintentional.

Don't feel qualified to go through Control Panel, Network etc. Why would I need to set up a network now if it has always worked before?
I found IE troublesome so downloaded Firefox.....all plain sailing!

Question Author
I had thought of that but unfortunately if I cannot connect to the internet I cannot download Firefox!
You don't need to set up a network and the change of browser won't help this problem.

Try a simple thing that will take no more than 5 minutes.
Turn everything off at the plug. Router, modem pcs and laptop. Wait at least 2 minutes and turn back on in this EXACT order:

Modem ...wait 30 seconds
Router (if separate) ..wait 30 secs
Pcs and laptops

That is often enough to get the connection up and running again, and you're not fiddling with the setttings

Just away to try it now Ethel.
Question Author
Still no joy Ethel. Desktop still connects fine but not laptop.
GRRRRR

Turn the firewall on your laptop off few a minute or two. If it now connects, turn the firewall back on.

If it doesn't connect, turn the firewall on anyway as we know that isn't the problem.

Have you got your connection icon in the bottom right by the clock?

If so, right click on that, and click 'repair'

Sorry, Ethel, but I have no ides how to turn firewall off. My son set the whole thing up for me but he is now out of country for a while.
Does the wifi icon show on bottom tool-bar. Right click mouse, Is radio enabled?
Question Author
Not sure if this is the correct icon I have clicked on but it states Speed : 36mpbs Signal : Excellent Status : Connected

The radio is connected. Not sure if this info helps in any way.
Right click on that, and click 'repair'
forget the wireless .... and dancing naked round the bin at midnight ..... and don't buy any beans!

lets keep it real
look at the obvious -
is the bl@@dy wireless adapter switched on?
It doesn't matter if it was an accident - if it's off - its off
(actually it doesn't sound like it is)

swap the cable from the desktop to the laptop ..... does that work?
has the aerial dropped off?

if you are still no closer - get your fix from the desktop .... get a good night's kip ... and resign yourself to the fact that tomorrow we are going to go where no spotit3 has been
Try Restarting Your Router
Turning It Off And On Again
Question Author
Thanks for your help everyone but I think it will have to be the repair shop in the morning.

ACtheTROLL suggested swopping the cabele from Desktop but since I am wireless there is no cable, unless I have misunderstood something.
