I was ordering some pics online yesterday and the screen went black then up came a load of writing, I just had time to quickly read bits, but it said something about a disc, NTFS partition 1, very important that disc CHCD, I could stop this check by pressing any key within one second but strongly advised against it, before I could press a key it carried on checking. Should I have unplugged the PC or what? Touch wood, everything seems to be working, but does anyone know what it was please. I did a full scan with AVG straight afterwards and it said no problems, but it sounds ominous to me. It had the Windows name in the top right hand corner. TIA Shirl

Well, it sounds as if your machine lost power and rebooted itself, which of course meant that it wasn't shut down properly.

Windows knows when a machine hasn't been shut down properly, so it likes to scan the disk for errors the next time you start it.

This was the screen you saw - Windows scanning your hard disk to make sure that everything was OK.
