LapTop Specs

Hi
I'm thinking about getting a laptop and was wandering what specs I should be asking for, as I have no understanding in these matters can you help.
I would mainly use it for storing photos and going online. We are currently with AOL and I use it mainly for online games and and checking emails. I also like to be able to use a webcam on it for chatting on msn or skype.

It is possible to get too bogged down with specs of a laptop.
Main choice is if you want a 15" size screen or a 17" size screen, also maybe battery life.
Once you have settled on that decide on a price and a good make (Toshiba, Sony, Dell, HP etc) then look round for a good offer.
To be honest, most times price will define the spec of a laptop.
Around 300 is going to be very basic and low end, 350 get you a bit more, 400 should get you a good machine, I would think twice about paying much over 400.
I think this is good deal at just over 400.

I would say that memory (RAM) is important you would want at least a 1gb for photos then as the other posts have mentioned screen size battery life, weight. Also it may be worth considering using a USB portable hard drive for data storage. you can get a freecom 250gb portable drive for around the 80 mark. What sort of mouse touch pad or mini joystick type, do you want to use a docking station at home so you can use a full size screen keyboard and mouse.
