Difficulty in logging on

I am having problems in logging on. Up to a couple of months back all was fine for about 3 years then something has changed.
I go to start then double click Firefox instead of getting BBC my home page I get "cannot be found" so in address box I type 192.168.1.1 and then get checking for broadband. Then I have to click "connect" then message comes up after 30 seconds or so ready to surf the internet. I then have to go to Firefox again then BBC comes up.
Why Has the proceedure changed ? I`ve done nothing. Any ideas how to go back to the original way.TIA

you need to check your line - disconnect everything except the router -
