After installing it, click on the updates tab and get the latest updates before doing a scan. It is possible that your computer will need to be restarted to finish clearing out some things. AC woud tell you to reboot your machine and go into safe mode before running it, which is probably sensible advice, but I usually don't do that.
Another one is superantispyware, the free version can be downloaded via http://www.superantispyware.com/download.html

Scan your PC with MalwareBytes anti-malware or Spyware Doctor. If you can't install these applications then rename the installers. For example, rename mbam-setup.exe to test123.exe and run it. Also there are manual removal guides. Couple of them:
