downloading movies - help, help, HELP!

I'm trying to drag myself into the 21st Century (kicking and screaming I must add) which is why I am asking another question.

If I down load movies from the internet what do I need on my pc to enable me to:

i) burn them to a DVD
ii) copy them onto a memory card of some sort so I can watch them on my via a laptop.
iii) how do i know if my pc is capable of this sort of this. I bout this pc from Dell about 3 years ago.

Is there any idots guides or information availalbe - I mean really easy to understand stuff. I would say something a kid would understand but kids know more than adults when it comes to tvs, dvd, computers etc.
