Lost Internet connection.
2 Answers
Last month I installed Cisco Network Magic on my desktop PC (Vista Home Premium), hoping that it would help get the PC talking to my laptop. After I’d installed it I found I could no longer get an internet connection on the PC (connected via home plugs) although I could with the laptop (wireless connection). PC Wizard tells me my Network Connection is disabled. So, use the Windows uninstaller and get rid of the Cisco program. Unfortunately there was still no internet connection. Delving into the “program files” folder I found 5 files buried in “Common files/Pure Network Shared/Platform” one application and 4 dll files. Are these still running when I boot up and if so how do I stop it? When I try to delete them Windows tells me “ You need permission to perform this action” and I can’t seem to change the files/folders from read only.
Having googled the problem I’ve found hundreds of people having the same problem but none of the methods suggested have worked for me. Any of you really clever bods out there got any ideas?
Thans in anticipation.
Gosh I hate Vista! I never had so many problems with XP!

Have you actually re-enabled your network adaptor?
Open Network Connections by clicking the Start button Picture > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center, and then clicking Manage network connections.
Right click on your network connection and cllick enable (if it's there, if it says disable then it's already enabled)

Thanks for your answer Chuck, I didn't know about that. Unfortunately it says my network connection is enabled. However the tab at the bottom (properties) tells me that there are 2 drivers Pure Networks Device Discovery driver and Pure Networks Wireless driver both with ticks in their boxes. I've tried unticking them to no avail and also tried to delete them. But they will not delete becausethey are needed by the program Pure Networks Platform which is running. Obviously the Windows Uninstall did not work completely. On the internet I've come across a lot of people complaining that Network Magic has caused all sorts of problems and nobody seems to be able to delete it.
