hi all, anyone help alter the screen res on an xp system....went into settings, changed color quality from 16bit to 32 bit, and tried to move curser from 'less' to 'more' pixels but the curser wont move....it shows 800 by 600 pixels.....my identical pc shows 1024 by 768.....and i can move my curser....all that remains to do on my dads pc is to change this resolution, and brighten the screen.

sounds like you've not got the proper graphics drivers installed, if you go to the manufacturers website and look on the support link you should be able to download the drivers for whatever model PC it is and install them.
We had this problem on some of the computers at work a few years ago when the display reverted to a low-res version that couldn't be altered in the control panel. It was cured by re-installing the driver for the monitor/dispay,
Oh, and I think the chipset driver had to be re-intalled as well.
Actually, if you've not got the correct graphics drivers the channces are the whole lot needs installing.

Go for

Graphics
Audio
Chipset
network
Wireless (if applicable)
Modem (if applicable)

at the very least.
