Is it possible to set up dual boot with linux when windows 7 is already installed, ive done it with xp before but not 7, is it the same process

Yes, but can I suggest an alternative?

Download and install VMWare Player (it's free) and they you can create a virtual machine where you can install Linux. This will avoid all of the dual-boot mucking about, and will allow you to run both operating systems at the same time...
Yep exactly the same, assuming you are using a main stream distro (such as ubuntu) install windows first, then install linux along side it and it will sort out all the dual boot stuff for you.
