ford s max

Looking for opinions of the ford s max from those of you out there who have one. We have a toyota prius at the moment and i would like to swap it for an s max, my husband seems less keen. We have had a test drive in one some years ago and i loved the space in the back (he never sits in the back so doesnt seem to have the back seat space as an issue). The extra two seats also are very useful in the rare event you need to transport extra kids - we have 5 grandchildren and can never taken them all out at once. Is this car reliable, what about cost of servicing, repairs, spare parts etc. Is the mpg as good as the advertising material says, usually its not. I know that the cost of taxing is substantially more than the prius (everything is) but thats not a problem. What about the cost of insurance. Any information, both negative and positive gratefully received as all round opinions from people who have had these cars is more reliable than the salesmans blurb, naturally he wants to seel you one!!

I have a C-Max (53 plate) and apart from the early problems with the EGR valves its never had any major problems.

would be looking for a used but only with a few thousand miles on clock, no older than 12 months so probably 58 or 59 plate
