To many items on start up

asked this on tuesday surprised no answers i keep getting message as above tells me to go into control panel and raise resolution for the screen i do this and do it exactly as it says but it keeps reverting back to the large on display icons can anyone help

Have you checked for updated graphics (video card) drivers?
Do you know what card is fitted ... is onboard or separate card?

no it is on a laptop built in graphic card do not know how to update graphic card driver

Sorry to be obvious here....

Too many items on start menu, then remove some items from the start menu. because I'd bet that most of the items you have on the start menu are things you never actually use or need.

Goto add remove programs (or programs and features) in the control panel and uninstall anything you know you don't need and don't use.

Oh and for the graphics drivers then try looking in the support section of the computer manufacturers website for graphics drivers for the model of computer you have.
