Is there anyway of moving the 'show desktop' button to the left of the task bar near the start button like it is in Vista and XP? It's annoying because I move my mouse all the way to the left and find the button is not there!

It must be wearing your finger out!
I'm using Windows 7 and am not even aware such an icon exists!

I suspect you are missing a panic button when your teacher wanders in your direction.
'Show desktop' is now achieved by clicking the little bar to the right of the clock:

If you'd rather have the old button back, here's how:

gen2 - yeah, it's the clear narrow button next to the time.

Do I sound young? I don't know why you assume I am a school kid. I'm actually 27!

cool, thanks buenchico
I was about to post a different link to an identical solution to chris...

Though I think it's much better where it is now, all you have to do is move to the far bottom right and click, no looking or aiming for the correct button required.
Thank you for clarification iamhobo. Just a teacher's paranoia. lol
That was the only use for it that I have ever encountered.

I was only aware of a right-click on the taskbar and selecting 'Show the Desktop'.

Sorry.

It's in a horrible position. I don't know about you but my mouse is mostly used on the left side of the screen, hardly on the right and it's annoying having to move it all the way to the left and all the way back again!

gen2 - "I was only aware of a right-click on the taskbar and selecting 'Show the Desktop'. "

You wasted energy making that extra click all the time!
"move it all the way to the left"
With my 22" monitor that equates to around 90mm of movement at the tips of my fingers (assuming my wrist stays where it is). You must be exhausted!
Incidentally, I tried writing a script to show the desktop, and then pinning it as a shortcut to the taskbar, but guess what? Windows automatically pins it to the far right and won't let you move it!
can't be moved it seems, but there are xp like replacements like at http://www.softpedia....nts/ShowDesktop.shtml
