ex directory phone number

I have my line rental with sky and when i joined them they forgot to ask me if i wanted to be ex directory when i realised this i phoned them to have it changed. 3 months on and they keep telling me that i am definately ex directory but every time i check on bt phonebook on line all of my details are coming up. When i contact bt they keep saying that it is my line rental suppliers responsibilty to make me ex directory,but like i said sky say that they have done this. I am getting very fustrated with all of this as there are very good reaons why i need to be ex directory. Surely it must be illegal to give out someones details without their consent?
I have threatened both companies with legal action and contacting bbc watchdog about it but nothing seems to work. I dont really want to leave sky as i am more than happy with everything else.
What shall i do next???

i suppose the answer lies in how often BT update their ex/ not ex directory numbers

could change my phone number but its more to do with my address details being on there than anything.
