It has been confirmed by the Council that this action has been sought.

People hid behind the anonimity of the internet and write lies, libels and generally unpleasant stuff safe in the knowledge that they will never have to back up those words.

That should not be the case, and hopefully this is a wake up call. Freedom of speech and freedom to lie are different concepts. If people are prepared to write things they should be prepared to publicly defend it without hiding behind a stupid user name.

Ypurs
Gromit (irony intended)
Question Author
Very much agree there, Gromit, especially when it becomes personal.

And also when Eds want to turn a blind eye to such abuse, especially continued abuse - and don't even return e-mails of complaint, then one should be able to take action.
Why would this have any implication for ABers?
I don't understand either ummm. What's this "deliberate stalking" about?
I think AB covered their backs when they filtered the footballers name.
The legal action is being brought against a specific person or persons that has made libellous accustations against the council, and the Giggsy lawyers are trying to gain info on whi leaked the name originally, they are not going after people who subsequently ripped the p1ss out of the story of Giggsy nor will they be persuing people generally on twitter or any other site that discussed the matters. That would be like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted but still putting a bet on it,
Question Author
Given some of the insults flying around here

There is also one ABer who has a mission to bug me under the guise of a second name, having taken out another under theri main AB name and I am more than aware of that story and that person and i have been in contact about this saddo.

It has to stop - forthwith. I am seriously thinking of serving a writ to release the name and then raise a cease and desist order.
Question Author
the story on the Council is an interesting twist as are the comments from Twitter that they will not protect usernames where there is a legal case....they will comply.
Is it a secret name?

Can't say I've noticed anyone trying to bug you...
Question Author
I am not going to name because of libel but if they read this, they can realise that I am very serious about this. I am not going to be forced off using AB as others have been so, not least one being from the said person, we believe.
It just looks like the paper has linked the two issues to make a more relevent article, it's a journalistis ploy to get their copy more prominent in the newspaper, if the Giggsy saga wasn't headline news the story about the council would just be a murmer
i have thought about it i must say regards one man regularly on here "" what ?
DT have you emailed the ed and explained all of this (better than how you have explained it here) as if you have then the ed can sort it out one way or another
Question Author
More importantly, the Ed is not taking this seriously enough as he didn't with the other person, despite receiving a detailed e-mail from that person to which he did eventually reply and the action to terminate their account was agreed on. See this as a wake up call Ed.
DT - A bit dramatic don't you think? What's libel got to do with naming a user name?

Or is it because he uses his own name?
Question Author
Yes I have e-mailed the Ed and asked for a response. And nothing yet forthcoming, so hence the rant here.

Anyway, end of that, message is conveyed but there is also principle that needs to be established for other ABers who "come under the needling/attempted bullying gun" and just how seriously some of us take such insinuation, to get the proper action due by the Ed, after proper research and review of course, and maybe a personal warning too sent out.

Over the months, I have noticed ABers often impinging on some dangerous and stony legal ground as to their views and opinions - with the Jo Yeats thread and there were several of us counselling care over views as to the Landlord.....
DTCrosswordfan get a grip.

This is very embarrassing. IF you are being stalked, the worse thing you could have done is this. You have revealed that the perpetrator has got to you which was their aim. You have let them win.
Irritating you by following you about on a public website is really not something in which *any* legal person would be interested.......

The Ed may be ignoring you, the Ed may be working away behind the scenes.....I haven't seen anyone who appears to be solely focused on making your life a misery here.

I rather think that the Ed believes we are all grown-up enough to sorts out our own playground spats.

The Super-Injunction debacle will roll on and on....especially whilst there is money to be made by the Legal-istas.
Question Author
sorry wit the Jo Yeats thread.......
I think there will be too many people to "take action" against to cause any serious problems
