I have had a quick response for a 3 piece suite i advertised on Gumtree. The chap wants it, unseen, gave a story about this being a surprise for his wife & says a carrier will collect it. He wants me to e mail him my Pay pal details. For some reason I'm suspicious. What might go wrong? Are there scams about with these circumstances?

dont do it. I got caught this way. Paypal may show the funds as being there and then you find that they have hacked into someone's account. Because you didnt post it to a verified address they will wash their hands of it. If they guy wants it in a hurry he must send cash.

Tell him its cash on delivery from the carrier, no other options. Then if anyone turns up with real money they can buy the suite. Don't give oout your paypal details whatever you do.

Dont accept a cheque thru the post. He must pay cash on collection and check the amount he gives you before he gets the suite. Be a good idea to have someone with you when he comes as well. I doubt he will come, sounds like a scam to me.
I saw a scam similar to this on another web site.

Guy was selling a laptop, a person came round to pick it up by hand and paid by pay pal.

Later in the day person who bought laptop me guy claimed his pay pal account had been hacked and the pay pal took back the money.

Guy lost his laptop AND his money.

Thnx guys, glad I asked.
Also guys watch out for ppl buying esp. mobiles and wanting them sent abroad... you can rack up a lot of fees trying to ACTUALLY sell something. 5 scammers bought my sony phone untill i found a real buyer. Do not part with goods until its cleared you paypal account and in your bank.

Surely the only thing the buyer wants is the email address that is linked to your Paypal account. There is no reason for him to want any other details, which you should never disclose to anyone
denis. that is all I gave and I was still defrauded. The money appeared to come in and transfered to my bank. But, it then emerged that the person owning that account had not made the transaction and paypal froze it. I then ended up with no money and no goods. Paypal is ok if you are posting things it seems but not if you give the goods to someone at that door as you dont know who it is and neither does paypal.
I must add to this post, that the scam involving paypal had left me without my goods or money (over £500). Paypal have just put the money into my paypal account "as a gesture of goodwill". I am going out later to celebrate! Good old paypal.
