Kindle Fire type product ?
When I saw the kindle Fire I thought it was the ideal gift for "her indoors".
I now see that it will not be on sale in the UK till the new year.
I'd like to get the lady wife a similar item for Christmas, is there anything like it at reasonable prices ie circa £200 ?
Wanting something of a similar size to the kindle (so it fits in the old hand bag) She would want it to have SD reader, to be able to browse the web, store and show photos and small videos of the grandaughter and if possible read books, any ideas ?

The last I heard Amazon had no plans to bring the kindle fire to the uk anytime soon. Also it relies on the Amazon Cloud which currently only exists in the U.S.
Sorry I cannot help with an alternative, I am saving up for the ipad2.

Hi, I have the Kindle fire, brought for me as an Xmas gift, via ebay. It is a fabulous bit of kit and very easy to use but it is not really meant for outside the US yet. You need an US billing account to get the books, music and apps from amazon. My hubby being a wiz, has uploaded 100 free books, lots of music and vidios onto mine. It is great, it goes onto the internet, I can access e-mail, facebook and google etc and shop on it as long as it is connected to wireless. So you need to be a bit IT savy to use it. It is also great for magazines and graphics, it expands pages just like an Ipad.
I cannot get apps on it yet because of the US problem, but my hubby says that we can get round that and it will soon have tons of android apps on it.
So yes a great product, very cheap and can do loads but you need someone, or need to be someone with a little bit of gadget knowhow to use it to its fullest............ or wait until it is released in the UK. It is an amazing product for the price. I love it.
