I started life with IE as we all do. I have slowly, and by recommendation, moved to Firefox and now Chrome (which I like a lot and is my preference). Currently, I can't open any of these programs to get on the net. I am writing this using Safari which I downloaded because my wife has got an iPad and this is the access program used on that. When I try to open any of the internet access programs I get the moving circle which indicated that something is working, but after about 10 (or less!) seconds, that stops working. I downloaded a current version of Chrome, to see if that made a difference, but no - nothing changed. What can I do - does having Safari open mean that nothing else works? What next please?

AVG - not the freebie, though. I bought a 2 year package.

Blimey!

Well, what you need to do is this:

1) download Microsoft Security Essentials:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/security-essentials-download

2) uninstall AVG and put the waste of money down to experience

3) install Microsoft Security Essentials and let it to its initial scan

4) download, install and run the FREE version of malwarebytes:
http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Run it once a week, or whenever you think you need to...

I turned the computer off (before going shopping with the boss this afternoon) and restarted it about 5.00 this evening. All seems to be OK (at the moment) so perhaps I'll let sleeping dogs lie for now. However, thanks for the info Mark - if it happens again I'll take your advice. I think it was you who advised me to use Chrome (continued good advice)!
You're welcome. For the record, though, I certainly never advised you to buy a two-year subscription to AVG!!! What on earth were you thinking...?

Sorry Mark, I didn't mean to suggest that I was suckered by you - it was actually someone in our local computer superstore (guess which one - it now has almost no future!). By the way AVG will be uninstalled this weekend!
